Tight Gas Drilling Services

Provided by SDI, Directional Drilling Specialists

There are six main types of unconventional gas, including deep gas, gas shales, coalbed methane, geopressurized zones, methane hydrates and tight gas. Tight gas refers to natural gas located in impermeable, hard rock that is extremely “tight.” Tight gas can also be trapped in sandstone or limestone. Typical conventional reservoirs has a permeability level of 0.01 to 0.5 darcy. Unconventional tight gas reservoirs typically have much smaller permeability numbers typically measured in millidarcy or microdarcy.

There are four types of wells that are drilled in tight gas reservoirs; verticals, slants, s-shaped and horizontal wells. SDI has vast experience in all four types of tight gas wells and have drilled thousands of these well across North America. The majority of the tight gas wells have been drilled in the Rockies using the S-Shaped Well Technique.
