Scientific Drilling Successfully Deploys Relief Well Active Ranging System in Fort Worth Test Well
Scientific Drilling International (SDI) announced the Black Shark Relief Well Active Ranging System’s success in an open-hole test in Fort Worth, Texas. For example, it operated on numerous runs throughout a four-day trial without interruption. In addition, non-productive time using the wireline conveys active-ranging instruments.
Meanwhile, the ranging data collected calculate real-time active-ranging results against a nearby cased wellbore. The active-ranging results matched the gyro-surveyed positions of the two wells. Above all, it demonstrates the industry-leading accuracy of the Black Shark system.
“The Black Shark’s high accuracy and the long-distance active ranging system is perfect not just for relief well-ranging applications, but also for plug and abandonment drilling projects. For instance, in the United States and internationally,” says SDI’s Chip Abrant, Senior Vice President – Operations & Sales. “Black Shark is also the perfect complement for our MagTraC MWD Ranging technology. We look forward to offering both ranging systems in a combined, blended approach. As a result, to deliver target well intersection in the most efficient and economical means possible for our customers.”
