Scientific Drilling has an immediate opening for Technical Specialist – MagTraC in the Houston, Texas Technology Center.

 Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide technical support to enable continued business growth of the MWD Ranging Product Line.
  • Assist in developing, planning, and executing MagTraC business opportunities with direct involvement in all phases of the business.
  • Involved in making technical presentations to customers, interacting with district/region personnel, and continually striving to improve the technical presentation of the MagTraC product line.
  • Serve as a technical focal point for MagTraC inquiries.
  • Provide technical support to district/region personnel in identifying and developing MagTraC business opportunities.
  • Prepare technical MagTraC proposals, operational procedures, end-of-well reports, etc.
  • Provide support to field-based MagTraC operations.
  • Assist in developing MagTraC opportunities by making initial technical presentations, explaining product/service features/benefits.
  • Assist in introduction / training of field personnel for MagTraC field operations.
  • Develop presentations and support material to enhance technical presentation of MagTraC.
  • Assist in resolving customer issues by investigating problems, preparing reports, making recommendations to management.
  • Recognize opportunities for sister product lines and assist/communicate as necessary internally to capture opportunity.
  • Participate in industry organizations such as SPE.
  • Keep management informed by submitting weekly activity reports.

 Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in physics, earth sciences, mathematics, or similar technical degrees that place emphasis on analytical and reasoning ability.
  • Understanding of oilfield operations is preferred.

Scientific Drilling is currently recruiting experienced applicants for various locations in the United States for the following positions:

  Directional Drillers  

  • Performs directional drilling services at the well site without supervision.
  • Plans, executes, and manages all phases of low-to-high complexity directional drilling jobs to deliver quality service that meets client expectations and company standards.
  • Provides technical support to clients and other company crew members at the well site.
  • Leads/manages any type of directional drilling job.
  • Assists in pre-job planning (equipment and personnel) and mobilization.
  • Works diligently in the initiation, investigation and close-out of non-conformance reports.
  • Demonstrates advanced knowledge of all DD techniques and surveying methods required to complete the directional drilling job.
  • Possesses expertise on advanced well planning using directional drilling software.
  • Assists clients by providing solutions for drilling issues.
  • Assists in the completion of End of Well reports.
  • Acts as the SDI client point of contact for drilling operations at the rig site.
  • Effectively manages inventory and supplies required at the well site.
  • Maintains good communication with the client’s well site representative, rig crew, and SDI field support staff.
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent required.

MWD Operators    

  • Supports the MWD Coordinator, as required.
  • Ability to act as MWD Coordinator for short terms as needed.
  • May attend pre-spud, DWOP, and pre-planning meetings with clients.
  • Understands company formation evaluation processes and tools.
  • Fully responsible for MWD/LWD job pre-planning and mobilization.
  • Develops and maintains positive relationships with clients to ensure repeat work.
  • Possesses advanced proficiencies for MWD/LWD services and must be certified competent as Senior MWD Operator.
  • Ensures all logs, digital data, and reports are delivered to the customers on time and meet client and company standards.
  • Effectively manages inventory and supplies required at the well site.
  • Works diligently in the initiation, investigation and close out of non-conformance reports.
  • Provides quality solutions to the customer’s questions, requests, or problems.
  • Provides quality service related to job preparation and planning.
  • Responsible for supervision, training, and development of any Lead, Second and Trainee MWD Operators.
  • Advanced knowledge of the oilfield industry and MWD/LWD tools and services.
  • Provides pre-job and post-job support.
  • Possesses advanced knowledge of rig-up and rig-down at the well site.
  • Able to prepare and troubleshoot all MWD/LWD tools.
  • Responsible for LWD log generation and delivery.
  • Supervises shop technicians in checking and preparing MWD/LWD equipment for the job.
  • Responsible for generation of required reports.
  • Leads post-job debriefings.

Gyroscopic Survey Technician    

  • Provides on-site interface with the client.
  • Responsible for conducting wellbore surveys and maintenance of the tools and equipment utilized.
  • Performs surveying duties as required to support our directional drilling operations and clients with their drilling programs.
  • Must be detail oriented, professional, and adhere to Scientific Drilling Internationals standards of safety and quality
  • Demonstrates a total understanding of Scientific Drilling health, safety & environment management system, quality, and with customer and local regulations/legislation.
  • Knowledge sharing and reuse is embedded in the workflow. Any knowledge gap is filled before a job and lessons learned are shared during or at the completion of a job.
  • Manages personal development and keeps up to date on Scientific Drilling techniques and management methods.
  • Reviews and appraises the performance of subordinates, consistent with performance objectives, recommends changes in job classification to management, and determines the need for additional training, in a fair and consistent manner.
  • Supervises in the completion of wellbore surveys and provides on-site support to customers; understands and communicates value of technology and interpretations.
  • Ensures that Wellbore Surveys comply with Scientific Drilling QMS, HSE and IT policies and procedures and with customer / local regulations.
  • Ensures that all wellbore surveys are fit for purpose and provide the most cost effective solution to meet the drilling target considerations.
  • Helps to identify areas where new and cost effective techniques can be applied.

 North Sea and Former Soviet Union Regions Operations

Scientific Drilling’s Aberdeen, UK office is currently recruiting for the following position:

MWD/LWD Field Engineers
Looking for both experienced and new MWD/LWD Field Engineers.  Ideal candidates should possess a strong technical background, willingness to learn, have strong written and oral communication skills and have the ability to adapt to new problems and situations in remote drilling environments.  A post secondary education and/or previous rig experience is considered an asset, although not a requirement.  Applicants must live within a one hour drive of Aberdeen, UK, must have the legal right to work in the UK and must be able to mobilise worldwide at short notice.
